Container moving is a great alternative for some moving families. They come in a variety of sizes and there are now a number of providers.
So things to consider when using a container company:
1. Do they deliver to your destination? We have loaded customers only to get a call that we now need to place the goods on a rental truck because the container company does not deliver to their destination. This is costly to the consumer.
2. Will the container be stored at your location or theirs? What is the cost for each? What type of facility do they have? What is the security there?
3. Insurance - find out what it covers. It is usually only for a catastrophic loss, like the container getting hit by a train. It will not cover things like damage during transit.
4. What is the delivery window- how much advanced notice do they need to deliver or pick up?
5. What sizes do they offer? Remember, if I would not move you in a 16' truck then a 16' container will not be enough either!
6. What will you use for pads to protect the furniture?
7. What type of hooks or how can you tie down items inside the container?
8. What type of door does the container have? If it is a roll up door, you will need to leave clearance on the top of the load for the door.
9. How do they transport the container? Is it loaded vertically and kept level the whole time or is it pulled/pushed up a ramp? This can impact the shifting of the load and damage.
10. Make sure to have tied down supplies, locks and pads. These will ensure you have the least amount of damage possible.
